Walking Wednesday

Took the class out into the forest today for Walking Wednesday, after a great introductory lesson last week from a fellow Outdoor Education Specialist! She was amazing! It really set the tone and the kids really enjoyed looking forward to and planning our excursion! They had an amazing time in the forest today! It was super windy and the trees were alive with movement! There were many wonderings and wishes! We came back using our "fox feet" and we did a class Journal about the experience. Now, for more writing tomorrow along with an illustration...and a plan for another visit soon! Please stay tuned...

    1. Add Owl Eyes, Raccoon Hands, Deer Ears when ready Jeremy! I also have a book that outlines core routines that help to build Nature connections with children - so happy to hear you will be venturing out!

    2. OMGOODNESS...I would love to see this book. Can you share information and I can see about getting it for the Hub staff resources?

  2. Jen - love the 'Walk Wednesday' theme day! Curious to see Ss reflections - would love if you had some of your students share them with my students :)

  4. Heightening engagement in reading -when I did these walks with grade 1 and 2s, when we would come back in we would go right to the computer where I asked them to tell me about our adventure
-i typed as they spoke -errors and all -then corrected them as they watched
-put the observations into some kind of order
-asked for beginning and an ending sentence
put on a title and printed it off right there and then (by next day I would have it in 11 by 17 large font format -and up on the wall -always amazed how they kept reading or trying to read these simple stories))
-at this time of year some kindergarten kids will be able to read some of the words -and they will all be very intent on finding any words that they know on the page -print off enough for pairs
-and that is only the start of the learning journey -where are you going to take it from here?
